The department is one of six Centers of Excellence in Chemistry in the country designated by the Commission on Higher Education.  To address the CHED-COE mandate, in conjunction with the Mission-Vision of the department and the Loyola Schools, the following projects are being undertaken under its CHED-COE Program: 1.  Development of Computer- and Internet-Based Modules in Basic and Advanced Chemistry Courses; 2.  Promotion of Modern Research in the fields of Natural Products and Bioactive Compounds, Materials and Polymer Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Instrumentation, and Chemical Education through Local and International Linkages; 3.  Building of Prototypes for Low-Cost Modern Chemical Instrumentation; 4.  Linkage Programs with COD (Center of Development) and Non-COD Chemistry Departments; and 5.  Promotion of the Chemistry Profession through Undergraduate and Graduate Sponsorships and Scholarships.
