The Departments of Chemistry and Physics of the Loyola School of Science and Engineering will now offer the 5-year Double Major Programs: B.S. Chemistry/B.S. Materials Science and Engineering and B.S. Physics/B.S. Materials Science and Engineering.
RE-BRANDING "CHEMISTRY WITH COMPUTER ENGINEERING"
The Department proposed in early 2003 that the current BS in Chemistry with BS in Computer Engineering (CH/CE) be re-branded to BS in Chemistry with BS in Applied Computer Systems (CH/ACS).
Angel De Dios Visits Chemistry Department
Angel De Dios (BS Chemistry 1985) visited the Chemistry Department in July for three weeks. Angel is currently an Associate Professor at Georgetown University where he is also Director of Undergraduate Studies (http://bouman.chem.georgetown.edu/). This was his first visit to the Philippines since he left for the US in 1988 for his PhD studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana where he graduated in 1992.

2004 Chemistry Licensure Examinations Results
Congratulations to the successful examinees in the Chemistry Licensure Examination held in September 2004! The Ateneo de Manila University according to the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) was the third top performing school. There was an error in the number of students from the Ateneo who passed but after correcting this, the Ateneo should be the second top performing school.

ACheS Awarded Most Improved Organization
Last February 2, the Ateneo Chemical Society (ACheS) was awarded Most Improved Organization by the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo (COA). Confident with the performance of the organization for this school year, Marge Maguad, the President of ACheS 2004-2005, and her co-Executive Board members submitted an achievement report to the COA and vied for the said award. ACheS has certainly improved this year with its 47 projects, which include chemistry-related activities (such as quiz bees, seminars, company tours, and exhibits) and academic assistance to its members and the Ateneo students (tutorials, book lending programs, and study guide contributions).

November 2005 Visitors of the Department Chemistry
The Department of Chemistry had three visitors last November with each of them giving a talk on their respective research interests to junior and senior undergraduates as well as graduate students.
Fourteen Ateneo Grads Now Licensed Chemists
Fourteen Ateneo chemistry graduates formally received their professional licenses during the Oath-Taking of New Chemists held at the Centennial Hall of the Manila Hotel last 14 October 2005.
NEW!The Chemistry Department at 40
The Chemistry Building (now renamed Schmitt Hall) is forty years old. To celebrate the anniversary of the building and the department, a Grand Chemistry Alumni Homecoming was held last December.
HOT STUFF: Chemistry News Featured in LSB!
In a recent issue of Loyola Schools Bulletin (LSB Issue #9, February 2006), the success stories of the ADMU Chemistry Department were featured.
After a competitive and rigorous selection process, two postgraduate students beat the hundreds of other hopefuls to win the coveted slot of representing the Philippines in the Novartis International Biotechnology Leadership Camp Singapore from October 6 to 8, 2006. Frances C. Vega, MS Chemistry, Ateneo de Manila University, and Dennis Bela-Ong, PhD Molecular Biology and Biotechnology, University of the Philippines, Los Banos, joined 33 other top post-graduate students from 11 countries to meet with some of the world’s leading biotechnology experts from the industry, academia, and government sector.
