The department research program concentrates on four major areas: Analytical and Instrumention Chemistry ..research and development of analytical methods for industrial product analysis and environmental monitoring; computer interfacing of chemistry instrumentation; optical- and electro-chemical sensors. Natural Products and Bioactive Compounds ..extraction, analysis and measurement of bioactive compounds from indigenous natural sources; research and development of alternative and value-added products from indigenous plant and marine natural products. Polymers and Materials Chemistry ..investigation of physical chemical properties of synthetic and natural polymers; synthesis and characterization of commercial polymers; polymer-inorganic composites; nanomaterials; biomimetic materials. Chemistry Education ..development of educational modules for teaching chemistry; workshops and modules for industry; computer- and internet-based education.
